Mahindra at an event in South Africa has uncovered the much-awaited Thar.e electric SUV concept that comes previewing a five-door electric iteration of the true-blue off-roader. Slated to go on sale in 2025, this would be a major product from the homegrown auto manufacturer when it launches.



 Mahindra & Mahindra, India's fourth largest car manufacturer, unveiled the electric version of the Thar SUV at an event in South Africa on Tuesday (August 15), when the country is celebrating its 77th Independence Day. The Thar EV breaks cover as a five-door version.

Two electric vehicles, one pick-up SUV and three light weight tractors - that was Mahindra & Mahindra's line-up in Cape Town, South Africa on India's 77th Independence Day showcasing the company's preparedness in capturing markets ranging from
electric vehicles to SUVs and tractors.

The company had released a few teasers of the Thar.e concept, which had generated enthusiasm among automobile fans. However, it is still not confirmed whether a commercial version of the car will be launched by Mahindra. Fans are hoping that Thar.e becomes the first 4X4 car in the e-vehicles segment. 


Launch date

Mahindra is set to unveil as many as five ''born electric'' SUVs by October 2026, and the Thar.e is one of them. All the upcoming SUVs will be built on Mahindra's INGLO platform.


Conclusion

So far, the Indian market does not have a viable candidate in the electric 4x4 segment and Mahindra Thar.e could become the first to get this distinction. Mahindra signaled its intentions to introduce up to five all-electric models by 2026 and Thar.e could be one of them.
